Our Experience and Review: TUX by West Paw

Updated: Oct 2, 2025

Wufs up to our fur-iends!

Dear friends human and furry, Fleming and I are reviewing another West Paw engaging toy. If you haven’t yet added the West Paw Tux to your dog’s enrichment collection, it’s time to pay attention. Simple but effective, the Tux features a basic construction, brilliant closed-loop recycling and versatility. Having praised West Paw’s commitment to sustainability before, I want to tell every new and experienced dog owner that this toy is a worthy investment for reducing anxiety and providing lasting mental engagement. When a toy is this durable and thoughtfully designed, it’s a keeper.

Design and Construction

The Tux is a tri-limbed creation molded from West Paw’s proprietary Zogoflex®, a tough, bouncy, and eco-conscious plastic. Unlike the weighted-bottom Toppl toy, the Tux rests on three weighted legs, creating a little thud and unpredictable wobble with every push and roll, similar to a small empty ball attached to three regular balls—the result? Fun, movement, and focus all are ready for repeated use.

One-piece molding means fewer seams for food (or bacteria) to hide, and reduced production waste, ticking all the right boxes for sustainable design. It’s as kind to the planet as it is amusing to your furry partner.

How It Works

By slipping treats or dry kibble inside the shallow cavity, you engage your dog's natural desire to forage and work for food. Fleming, the contrafreeloader, loves flipping the Tux to knock out every last kibble piece. If your furry friend is new to working puzzles and for their food, this is a great introductory toy. The shallow center makes it easy for dry food to drop out, but the weighted limbs demand some effort to win.

When we freeze a mix of wet and dry food inside, he is laser-focused — licking determinedly while sometimes pausing to work through a “brain freeze”. 🍦Studies show such foraging and licking release calming neurotransmitters like serotonin, making this a great tool for anxiety relief and focus building. The small Tux holds about 1/8th cup of medium-sized kibble, more like a snack size than a full meal. Or paired with another toy, like a single Topl…

Maintenance and Durability

West Paw’s Zogoflex® is dishwasher safe and ready for tough chewers, 200%, it’s fairly hard to find reviews where the dog was successful chewing the Tux into pieces. We’ve had our Tux for over three years with no sign of fatigue or wear. After a good wash, it looks almost new. And it goes to be repeated, West Paw’s closed-loop recycling program ensures destroyed toys can become new toys after being  mailed back for a replacement. My furry bestie isn’t a power chewer and the Tux construction is heavy-duty enough that most aggressive chewers won’t break it easily. Picking the right size for your dog ensures years of fun and mental exercise.

Quick clean up is a strong influence on how often we use this toy. Wash with other toys on the top rack of the dishwasher. If you wash by hand, it is just as easy to see the Tux well cleaned and ready for another mental workout.

We find the West Paw Tux Fun and Funner

FUN:

  • Durable, non-toxic Zogoflex® safe for wet, dry, or frozen treats

  • Unpredictably wobbling tri-legged design enhances engagement

  • Shallow cavity makes for easy simple treat access, especially in short-nosed breeds

  • Dishwasher safe and recyclable materials support sustainability

  • Proven mental stimulation to reduce anxiety and destructive behavior

FUNNER IF:

  • More texture on or in the Tux to provide engagement during those licking treat sessions like the Topl

  • The legs were hollow, an opportunity to add more stuffing space and create more treat capacity and longer play sessions

Conclusions

The West Paw Tux combines simplicity, durability, and scientific enrichment benefits in one flippable, brain stimulating package. Available in different sizes and even limited edition colors, it suits small and large dogs alike and is especially well-suited for anxious pups needing mental workout through problem-solving, working, licking and play. Keep The Tux packed with dry kibble for some quick fun or freeze a tasty layered wet-and-dry treat mix for a longer, brain-freeze-approved session.
